I’ve always admired Mikel Arteta.

Not just because he brought Arsenal back to becoming champions after 22 years, but because of how he built the journey.

When he took over, Arsenal had talent, money, history, and passionate fans.

But somehow, it still wasn’t enough.

Because what was broken was not only the tactics.
It was the belief.
The discipline.
The identity.
The culture.

A few things that deeply inspire me:

  • He built the team around three non-negotiables: Respect, Commitment, and Passion
  • He was brave enough to let go of big names, even talented players, when they no longer fit the culture
  • He chose discipline over ego, standards over status, and long-term culture over short-term comfort
  • He trusted young players, gave them belief, and created an environment where they could grow

A strong team is not built only by having the best talents.
It is built by people who share the same standards, protect the same values, and are willing to grow together.

Sometimes, building culture means making uncomfortable decisions.

Letting go of people who perform well but damage the team.
Challenging old habits.
Saying no to ego.
Protecting the standard even when it is painful.

Arteta’s journey is a powerful reminder:

  • Build the culture first.
  • Protect the standard.
  • The trophies will follow.
