This is one of the cultures I try to build within my team.
The goal at work is not to avoid mistakes.
The goal is to learn faster.
For us, this culture is supported by our OKR direction around three things:
- Productivity: move with focus and deliver progress
- Quality: build things that are reliable and sustainable
- Responsiveness: respond quickly when something needs attention
Moving fast does not mean being careless.
It means having the courage to try, the discipline to fix what is not working, and the humility to learn from every outcome.
Small mistakes are often the cheapest way to learn.
Every experiment teaches us something:
- What does not work, so we do not repeat it
- We learn what to improve through feedback
- We experience what it feels like to be guided, corrected, and challenged, so we can become better leaders when guiding others
Move fast enough to make progress.
Fix fast enough to avoid repeated mistakes.
Learn fast enough to keep growing.
